Vijendra wins Dharwad Rapid Chess Tournament

Top seed of the tournament, Former Karnataka State Champion, Mr Vijendra Y G of Mysore scored 9.5 points out of maximum possible 10 points and won the tournament. Mr Santoshkashyap HG of Bangalore scored nine points and declared as first runner up. Shreeshan S of Shimoga and Dr Vishwanath Baligar scored 8 points but Sheeshan was declared second runner up based on the better tie break score.

 

Chief guest of the prize distribution ceremony, Smt Poorna Patil, Hon Mayor, Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation, Rtn Lingaraj J Patil, President, Rotary Club, Dharwad, Mr R Hanumatha, Vice President, United Karnataka Chess Associatiom, Mr VV Mangalvedkar, President, Dharwad District Chess Association, Mr Vinay Kurthkoti, Secretary, Dharwad, District Chess Association were on the dais to distribute the prizes to the winners. - Report by Vasanth B.H.

Akshay Bharadwaj wins Karnataka State Under 13 Chess Championship

Akshay Bharadwaj of Bangalore won the Karnataka State Under 13 FIDE Rated Chess Championship 2011 which was conducted by MPM Chess Club,  Paper Town, Bhadravati under the auspices of United Karnataka Chess Association.

 

Akshay drew his final round game against Sharang M S  (also of Bangalore) who opted for the Dragon variation of Sicilian. The pieces were exchanged in the early game and the game ended in a draw after 40 moves.

 

Akshay Bharadwaj and Anantharam R U are representing Karnataka State for the National Under 13 Chess Championship to be held at Delhi fron 2nd to 11th October 2011.
Manasa is Karnataka State Women's Chess Champion 2011

Top seeded Manasa K of Mangalore won the Karnataka State Women’s Chess Championship 2011 which was held at Chandralaya, Sri Rama Temple, Paper Town, Bhadravati from 11th – 12th June 2011. The Championship was organized by MPM Chess Club, Bhadravati under the auspices of United  Karnataka Chess Association.

    In a minor blip, Manasa.K was defeated by second seeded Shrishti J Shetty of Shimoga in the 5th round. However, Manasa came back strongly bringing all her experience to the fore, to win the remaining two rounds to emerge the winner with a score of 6 points. Shrishti finished 2nd with 5.5 points. Sampada H R of Hassan produced an upset victory against Shrishti and finished 3rd with 5.5points. Nisha N Patkar stood 4th with the same score but with a lesser tie break score.

 

  Manasa,Shrishti,Sampada and Nisha have been selected to represent Karnataka in the forthcoming National Women’s Challengers to be held at Chennai in July.
