Girish Koushik won the Karnataka State Sub Junior FIDE Rating Open Chess Championship 2011 which was conducted by Innovators Chess Academy from April 15^th to 19^th, 2011 at the State Youth Centre, Bangalore.

After suffering a shock defeat at the hands of Shabdhik Verma of Dharmasthala in the final round, the young Mysore lad tied for the first place with Naren N Kumar of Bangalore with 8 points apiece. However, Girish Koushik was declared the Champion on account of a higher tie break score.

The tournament was sponsored by the parents of Siddharth Ashok, Goutham S, Kshitij Kadam, Pavan Shiralagi, Subash Sundaraman and Siddharth Sundaraman, Sreenidhi Rajagopal and Uttej Vitta.

K.Durgesh, President of ICA and Treasurer of UKCA and Mrs Kalpana Shiralagi, Mala Anand, Sudha Sundar and Venugopal gave away the prizes.
