Bhubaneswar (30-05-2016): K S Raghunandan Participated in 9th KiiT International Chess Festival - 2016 (ELITE Category) at Bhubaneswar and was seeded 38. Totally 201 players participated in this tournament with a strong field of 13 GMs, 2 WGMs, 15 IMs and 2 WIMs. In the third round Raghu defeated strong Grandmaster 4th seeded Amonatov Farrukh of Tajikistan with a rating of 2614. In the fifth round Raghunandan displayed strong character to defeat GM Shardul Gagare(2514) of India to join the leaders. After a setback in the fifth round against Russian GM Gleizerov Evegeny(2508), Raghu came back strongly to defeat IM Rajesh V A V(2366) and drew with IM Shyam Nikhil(2415), and then defeated Gusain Himal with a rating of 2440 to complete his second IM norm. Raghunandan missed the grandmaster norm by a whisker. He scored 7 points of 10 games and also gained maximum rating points of 67 out of this tournament to make this as memorable one. With this wonderful effort 14 year boy now needs 38 rating points and one IM norm to complete his IM title.
